This was our final production logo. We started of with thinking we may do a animated piece or some thing rather complex but we thought we would do some different but was very simple to create.
-We brain stormed on what to call it and we decided that piping productions would be rather fitting as the logo would be written on to a cigarette.
-.We then decided we was going to write on it with black marker pen making the logo big and bold and will also make it easy to read for the audience.
-We then had to decide what part we was going to write on the cigarette as not all of it would have fitted and also how we was going to write on it whether it was going to be in capitals or lower case.
-We finally decided to write piping in lower case on the cigarette and productions on the knuckle of my hand so you would see Piping Productions.
-We used the cigarette and knuckle as it fits in with the smoking and violence with in the film.
We found that smoking a cigarette with marker pen on is not particually healthy and did make me a little ill but the overall piece was great after a little editing and blackening the back ground of it.
BBFC'S do a rate and watch service that provides and allows the owners rights to hold a cost-effective digital age rating. This can be done with out the government and rates them from a u-r18 . With in this it considers the amount of violence , drugs, language, behavior, nudity, theme and the impact that consists through out the whole film .
Main Issues of content and what will need to be considered for this reason- Discrimination- there is no racial or prejudiced discrimination, however there are some words that viewers may find offensive. Drugs- there is no links, good or bad within our film opening which include drugs, however tobacco is involved. Horror- there is no content of horror within this film opening. Imitable behavior- this is due to a fight scene, smoking and vandalism, which can be easily imitated by easily influenced people. Language- this is due to language which s inappropriate for people under the age of 15. This is because most of the language includes swearing. Nudity- there is no content including nudity within our film opening. Sex- there is no content or references to sex within our film opening. Theme- these include, violence, gang culture, social class. Violence- in our film opening, there is a large content of fighting, however these scenes are not graphic (blood, gore, 'cringe-worthy) to gain a higher age rating. This classification does not contradict our target audience because our target audience is under 35's, however, we have decided on a classification of a 15 because the is imitable behavior, violence and bad language. This has not received a higher classification because there are no graphic scenes, racial/ prejudiced discrimination or any relation to illegal or harmful drugs, (positive or negative) apart from tobacco.
After considering the information from above we have decided that our movie opening will be rated a 15 however this classification does not contradict our target audience because our target audience is under 35's, however, we have decided on a classification of a 15 because the is imitable behavior, violence and bad language. This has not received a higher classification because there are no graphic scenes, racial/ prejudiced discrimination or any relation to illegal or harmful drugs, (positive or negative) apart from tobacco. The language is bad , But with nothing else being included with in this and as the swearing is not out of control we have decided to keep it at a 15 .We have also taken in consideration of what the BBFC rates normal violent action films .
This is the process that we took when editing the shots that we had for our film
opening.
These are the shots
that we edited together. To do this we simply dragged the shot that we wanted
down from the project media, dragging the end of each shot to cut it or make it
slightly longer. This consists of jump cuts as the fight goes on for a while we
used jump cuts to show the passage of time.
This is the
uncopy righted sound that we added in . We did this by downloading it and then
adding into the suitable scenes of which we selected it for . we had to shorten
some bits and copy and paste more bits in to make it longer so that it would fit
in . we also had to rewind a bit to make it fit in with the rest of the music
.
This is the narration that we inserted
we used this narration because i thought it was the best technique to get the
audience to feel like they know the audience. We found trying to insert this a
little tricky but once we had a little play and got the hang of it we was really
able to use it to its ability.
This is
the speech and sounds that was picked up on the camera we kept this as we
thought it gave a good affect int he fighting scenes as you can hear the
shouting and the screaming of the rival gang we had this in the back ground
really quiet.
This is the
text that we used. we searched through the internet for so many fonts and this
one caught our eye we thought that it matched the genre and setting
perfectly.
This was our cast in their out fits for our first day of filming - As you can see they are dressed like chavs which was our stereo typical look for our chosen film genre (Crime). Their looks and their attutude fit perfectly for when we was filming , they were all good actors and gave us 100%.
Things that went wrong and that we found difficult
At first we found it hard to get the right positioning with the camera and our cast but after a couple of attemps we got use to it and got the shots that we needed .
We realized that in some of the shots we took our chracter was smoking and in the next she wasnt so we had to change this .
Some times we did not get the right angles from our characters so the clip we took had to be deleted but other clips were fine .
Things that went well
The fighting scenes went really well and looked really realistic due to us having good actors , The actors all acted in character and gave a good performannce when filming .
Some of the shots we got was taken by accident and actually turned out usefull and set our genre well.
A lot of our shots were accurate and controled and went really well , the scene we filmed in was better than we thought and connoted the fact that we were doing the genre crime .
The lighting was perfect and the streets and parks we used was a good setting .
This is the first day we filmed we did the filming in three different areas
around Market Rasen.
First- we filmed down Chapman Street first this was
of Lizzy walking down the road this consisted of a long shot of her walking from
behind from the front and a close up on her feet. We did this about five times
each so we had a wide variety to choose from. -Then it was of her walking to
the door and a anonymous man opening the door we remembered the 180 degree
angle.
This was very successful the lighting fitted very well and the
angles of the cameras where perfect.
Second- We filmed randomly down the
high street this was not intentional but we think it looks very good it is a
hand held shot of us all walking down the high street.
This was very
successful too the light was just setting and it showed the passing of time from
the first section of filming to the next.
Third- This was filmed in a
little park near the primary school we thought this was suitable for the
location of the fight. we managed to get plenty of establishing shots we got
this by having the camera stood on top of a climbing frame this created a a
brilliant establishing shots of the fight. We also did close ups high angled
shots and mid shots this is to create a tense feeling through out the
fight.
This was also successful as by the time they reached the park it
had got dark which shows that time has passed and that all of these events
happened all in the same day. My over all thoughts about this day of filming
was that it was very good and we filmed some brilliant
footage.
We will now be filming at Caistors riding school as the weather is affecting the ground which means we are unable to ride the horse. So the introductions is now not at Jess' farm it is at Caistor. This place has an in door riding school which we hope to be using.
For the second scene we are having the characters dresses in trackies or jogger bottoms wearing a hoodie and trainers , we are dressing are characters like this to connote the fact that they are chavs and are up to no good.
This is the location for scene
one, we have chosen this because it is a large peice of land, which tells us that
the family in the film opening is 'rich'. Therefor this gives the right
characterisation for the main character, Elizabeth. We also chose this location
because there are horse stables and there is also enough space to ride a horse
for our first scene
Costume
Scene One- Horse
riding.
In the first scene, the main
character will be wearing horse gear. This will include, jodhpurs, a riding hat,
shirt, boots etc. This is because she will be riding a horse.
Camera- we have decided
that we are all going to control the camera, sharing this duty. The definition
of a camera man is a person who's function is it operate a
camera. Sound- we have decided that
Megan Johnson is in charge of sound because she is playing the non-diegetic
music for our production. The definition of someone who controls sound is a
technician who is responsible for recording sound. Lighting- all of our scenes
are outside. Therefore no one is necessarily in control of this. Director- we have decided that
we should all participate in this role, because we feel that no one should be
the only person to take control of the production, so therefor it would be a
joint decision. The definition of a director is a member(s) of a team who is in
charge of a situation and with a vision of the finished
product. Producer(s)- we have decided
that all of us will take this role because we should all be able to contribute
to the finished product. The definition of a producer is someone who edits and
creates the overall product.

Leading a double life is a talent that comes all too easy for Elizabeth Smith; one - drinking champagne celebrating her successes with her aristocratic - yet highly controlling family acquaintances, and another drinking Special Brew with her less noble associates in the depths of the urban jungle on the other side of town. However, when her life is knocked out of balance when her devoted crew become aware of her disciplined, middle-class existence, which way of life will she choose?
Synopsis
Elizabeth Smith comes from a very comfortable, middle-class background, however, to escape the pressures of her parents great expectations, she forms an alter-ego that goes by the name of Lizzie. Lizzie is feared by many but known by few; her 'crew' are a group of passionate and loyal girls from the estate who are notorious for their affinity for violence. They view Lizzie as their first in command. However, when they learn of her home life and compliance to her parents' demands, they insist that Lizzie must stay true to herself and choose just one way of life. In order to do this, however, she must first learn who her true self really is.
Likes and dislikes What brands do you like to wear? Vans,Jack Wills, and no other brands really because she does not see the point in paying so much for what the items look like when she could just go to new look and buy the same jumper with out the logo. What is your favorite food ? Cake,Curry, Chinese what is your favorite sport? Basketball because i find it fun What are your hobbies ? Swimming what tv programs do you like to watch ?Made in Chelsea, Hollyoaks, Coronation street, I'm a celebrity what are your favorite movies? Harry Potter , Cinderella story, Despicable me , Green street what are your favorite crime movies ? Green Street, Bad Boys , Kidult hood Do you watch the news ? Yes every morning because i like to know what is going on in the world . What do you like about crime movies ? Their is a lot of action and they keep you focused because you want to know whats going on in the rest of the movie .
Due to the information i have been given by Lauren i would market my crime film out side take a ways and on TV before Hollyoaks and Coronation Street because these are all big TV programs that a lot of people like watching . I would do this by contacting which ever TV channel i would like to put it on and ask them to put it before the TV programs or i would Sponser the TV program so that i could get it put before . My Crime Film would come out in the winter as every one has nothing to do in the winter and are always busy in the summer .
Melcs M-e-s Costume- The female we see at the very beginning is wearing formal clothing and is dressed in a coat and a scarf this connotes the fact that she is in sixth form or at college or could even be a teacher .This also signifies that it is cold and could be winter . The guy we see near the end opening the door and picking up a scarf is covered up so that you cant see him , this connotes that he is a bad guy and/or is trying to hide his identity .The fact that he is wearing a leaver jacket shows us that he is not poor and he is also wearing a coat which signifies the fact that it could be cold or winter .I think the costumes are good because it matches the genre although i think that the guy who is covered up could wear cloths that are a bit more appropriate as it just looks like he is wearing normal cloths .
Lighting
All the lighting with in this is natural lighting or high key lighting this adds effect as it makes it seem more interesting as people wouldn't normally steal in the light, or commit a crime in the light although i think that to make it look more like a crime film it needs to be done more in the dark . I do not know if the high key lighting was done intentionally or not .
Characters
The first character we see is a girl wearing casual clothing which connotes that she is maybe in college or sixth form . She seems sad and lonely as she is not walking with any one and has a sad look on her face , i do not know if this was done intentionally or not but to me the fact that she is alone signifies the fact that she has a stalker . The second person we see is a male who is all covered up this connotes the fact that he is sneaky and mysterious , i think that it is good that he is all covered up because it makes the audience ask questions.
Props
The only prop that is used in this film opening is a scarf and a phone , the phone is used when the girl is walking and it looks as if she is texting they could of used this prop to make it look like the girl is doing something , although i do not think their is any need for the use of the phone in this film opening . Their is also a scarf used which is then stolen by who we presume is a stalker , this is good because it adds effect and lets the audience know that their is something weird about the guy .
Setting
At the beginning the setting is on the road , this could connote the fact that he is following her down the road as she goes to school , Although i am not quite sure why the setting is on the road as it is a clean road which isn't crime like at all. The next setting is in a class room which signifies the fact that she goes to a sixth form or college . This is good because it tells the audience that she does go a sixth form and answer the question we first asked at the beginning (Why is she dressed formally) .
Editing
I think that the only editing they really did in this was fades in and out . This could connote the fact that he is sneaking around and that it is a crime film opening but other than that i do not really see any other editing techniques .
sound
The sound is an up beat but scary music and sounds like it is played by string instruments and a piano , this music adds effect as it is intense music . Although i think this type of musicis normally used in a horror movie than a crime movie .
Melcs
Editing
Cut is used with in this- This is where two frames are put together to make a sequence .
Their is a lot of cross cutting with in this this is to show the male and females at different places at the same time , this makes the audience think that they will eventually meet .
Fade- Fade is used through out this is a good editing techneque because it makes the shots look better as they fade in together .
Their are also cut aways used with in this , this fills the gaps so that it fits in with the film genre and creates a mood for the audience .
Camera Shots
Their are point of veiw shots used with in this to show that she is being watched by some one through the blinds .
There are close ups on her walking and texting this also connotes the fact that she is being watched and shows her surroundings .
Their are long shots used to show the surrounding and to show where she is walking to .
Sound
Non-diagetic sound is used through out all this film opening , the sound is a slow classic sounds , this builds tention at the beggining and makes the audience wonder what is going to happen next because of the sound . I think this music is good for a crime film because in crime films the audience are always wondering what is going to happen next ?. CMINTS
Iconography
Their are signs with in this film opening that are very unique for the genre:
The cigrettes - This connotes some on who is bad or doesnt care about theit apperance .
The guy wears a hoodie which connotes crime because it hides his face .
Theme
In the opening it is suggested that the theme is stalking which is a usual type of crime - This is shown as the male characters actions are strange and followes her into school , looks through the blinds and then steals her scarf . I think this is good for a crime film because it builds tention although i think they rushed into showing the audience that he is a stalker straight away .
NarrationTheir are Non-linear narration used with in this film opening because of the tension from the music and the attitude from the boy - it makes the audience think that something bad is going to happen rather quickly . EnigmaWho is the male character?
We chose to use an idea from this film , we have chose to use the freeze frames and writing of names in our film opening as we like how it uses freeze frames to introduce their characters . After seeing this idea we would like to use our main characters and introduce them as they are fighting , this will include freeze frames on the main characters, punching some on , kicking some one etc..
In Green Street we have chose to use the shouting and fighting within our film opening as we like the idea of the shouting and fighting being crime like . This will show our audience straight away that they will be expecting crime and action within our film .
I was not here for this interview but first of all we interviewed three different people to see their individual thoughts on the genre we have chosen "Crime"
The first person we interviewed absolutely loves crime films and drama films , she was very passionate about them, she gave us a good over view about what we should put in a crime and drama film and what not to put in them . She also mentioned that she thinks its bad and does not like to much action such as the use of guns and explosions but likes it when you have to think about whats happened .
The second person that we interviewed also loved our chosen genre crime and drama , she tells us how she likes to see the leader of the group to show dominance , this is good because it means the target audience enjoy this and this was one of our first ideas on our film opening . she also mentioned that she likes a good amount of suspense and violence but she likes it to be a mixture which is good for us because that what we would like to do in our film opening .
The third that we interviewed involved two people being interviewed at the same time this is so that their answers would bounce of each others but we didn't get a lot of information as they did not like our chosen film genre . We asked them why they didn't like the film genre but they did not give us a good answer .
Conclusion Our conclusion is that we are going to go with our chosen genre crime and drama as we had brilliant feed back which means it would be good for out target audience . This has also given us confidants to add extras into it .
We have been talking about our film opening ideas and have chosen the location, cast and what their personality and life style is going to be like:
Cast
Main character: Elizabeth- played by Billie Blake
Main Girls: Stella- Played by Gemma Green Jodie-Played by Jade Clarke Becky-Played by Jess Hordon Tiffany-Played by Megan Johnson
Rival Gang:Charlene-Played by Ebony Daley Bianca-Played by Kerry Green Cheryl-Played by Vanessa Chow
Elizabeth is a rich upper class girl who is from a rich back ground , she is 16 but has friends from a working class background . Because of her upper class background she likes to rebel and act a bit out of the ordinary by causing trouble.
Stella is one of Elizabeth working class friends who is also aged 16 , she has come from a rough background and has not had a very good upbringing and has always liked to rebel .
Jodie is one of Elizabeth working class friends who is also aged 16 , she has come from a rough background and has not had a very good upbringing and has always liked to rebel .
Becky is one of Elizabeth working class friends who is also aged 16 , she has come from a rough background and has not had a very good upbringing and has always liked to rebel .
Tiffany is one of Elizabeth working class friends who is also aged 16 , she has come from a rough background and has not had a very good upbringing and has always liked to rebel .
Locations - Jess's house
Market Rasen
St Giles, Lincoln ) rough areas LIGHTING
We have chose to use dark lighting for the fighting and freeze frame scene , and high key lighting for the horse riding , posh scene .
Unfortunately i was not here for this task but the rest of my group still filmed it and these were our ideas and feed back . Idea 1- At the beginning of the filming we chose the main character to be riding a horse from two different points this was the show the posh part within our character, it has a classic relaxing music in the background to also show that she is posh and to show the relaxation we then chose that the main character should leans against a fence and lights up a fag with narration of her talking about her life this is to show the more rebellious and crime side to her . It then continues to then show us her double life as she has had a posh up bringing but she chooses to be a rebel and get into trouble. there is narration continuing through out this which also consists of an upbeat music as she walks to the front door. It then goes on to her introducing her friends every time she says her friends name it freezes on them hitting some one and this is the basic idea of are first idea.
Feed back- we got good feed back for this one saying that it is a good idea and that we should go for this one.
Idea 2- Idea two is a basic version of the first where it basically shows the true environment that a working class teenager class D/E has to live in and shows the impact on there life. This idea was not thought through a lot and we decided to scrap it.
Feed back- We didn't get much feed back as they was not keen on are ideas and think idea 1 would be produced better.
Our group has chosen to do our film opening on the genre Action/Crime/Drama, we have chosen this because it is a popular choice as shown on these pictures . This first picture shows that 50% of the general public enjoy watching Action films and 55% enjoy watching Drama . This is a high percentage from the general public and would be good to market . Because of this percentage we know that it is a good choice of film genre and would get high ratings .
In table second it shows us that 20% of the public who are 16+ which is still a really good percentage , this tells us that we need to be aiming our target audience at 16+ to get the highest market that we can . As well as this Drama has 19% of 16+ who consider it their favourite genre to watch . These two genres have both got high percentages so to mix them both together will target a bigger percentage of the audience which will be good for the market .
The third picture shows that 37% of the age 35 and under consider action their favourite film where as only 20% of women 35 and under consider action their favourite film . The percentage of men over 35 is 25% and women is 10% this shows us that the 35 and unders prefer action films so we should target it to 35 and unders . Although drama has a percentage of only 4% from the males of 35 and under and a percentage of 14% fir females aged 35 and under . This makes the target audience for age a little bit more difficult , so because of previous research from the pictures above i would put the film as a 16+ as that would target our main audiences .
In the fourth picture 62% males over 35 consider action their favourite film genre where as only 35% of women over 35 considered it their favourite film genre . Although 70% of women that are 35 and over enjoy watching drama where as only 54% of men over 35 enjoy watching the genre drama. This tells us to be targeting the genre more towards both males and females as their is a lot bigger interest in males for Action and a lot bigger target audience for Drama for the females so its a mix .
After analyzing my results of www.the-numbers.com . From looking at these statistics I can see that my genre has a good potential in the market . As shown on the pictures below Action and crime is a very popular genre . As the black night sold the amount of $447,614,51157,166,604 and Men in Black 3 sold $179,020,85422,863,455 worth of tickets. Also action has a 16.81% of market share . After looking and analyzing these results i feel confident in doing a Action /Crime film as it is a high rated genre .
